Admissions

At Menorah Homes, our utmost priority is to create a balanced and harmonious environment for all residents. We understand that moving to a new place can be an overwhelming experience, so we have set in place a comprehensive and supportive admissions process to ensure smooth transitions.

Admissions Criteria & Assessment

1. Balanced Integration: Our primary focus is to ensure the needs of both the prospective resident and those currently at The Menorah Homes align for an integrated living environment.

2. Impact Assessment: Before any admission, our Registered Manager conducts an in-depth Impact Assessment. This evaluation ensures that the needs of the incoming resident are in harmony with our existing residents. The Head of Care is duly informed of the assessment outcomes.

3. Emergency Admissions: We are equipped to handle emergency admissions. In such cases, the Registered Manager makes it a priority to gather all necessary information promptly to ensure a swift and informed assessment, always keeping in mind the welfare of our current residents.

Emergency Procedures:

For sudden placements, as long as we receive adequate background information on the young person, we can offer emergency placements. Following such admissions, a planning meeting will be scheduled within 48 hours.

Documentation:

Prior to any placement, we email the admissions form to the placing authority. A swift return of this form, populated with relevant details, ensures a smoother admission and a more tailored placement plan.

Supporting New Admissions

  • Preparation

We believe in gradual and thorough preparation before a child’s arrival. This involves visits to Menorah Homes and, if necessary, staff visits to previous placements.

  • Pre-Arrival

To ensure a welcoming atmosphere, existing residents are informed and prepared to support the incoming resident.

  • Onboarding

Upon admission, a dedicated staff member assists the new resident, addressing any concerns and introducing them to the ethos of Menorah Homes. We don’t just hand over our handbook; we sit with the young person, walking them through it, answering questions, and ensuring clarity.

  • Initial Planning

Within 72 hours of admission, a planning meeting is convened to set clear expectations for the placement, ensuring all stakeholders – the resident, staff, and placing authority – are on the same page. A subsequent meeting is scheduled approximately 28 days post-admission to address any additional requirements.

  • Key Worker Assignment

Also within the initial 72-hour window, we appoint a Key Worker to closely collaborate with the new resident. This individual handles paperwork, registration with healthcare providers, and ensures the resident’s well-being.

  • Information Dissemination

Every new resident receives both written and verbal information about our facility, including the young person’s booklet, complaints procedure, access to advocacy services, rules, and contact details for their Independent Reviewing Officer.

  • Parental/Guardian Involvement

Whenever possible, we involve parents or guardians in the admissions process. Their insights aid in creating more tailored and effective plans.
